Dad and I made it home yesterday, had a absolutely awesome trip... flat out busy and moving the whole time, but a heck of a lot got accomplished. and some fun plans with a whole bunch of new ideas.
Starting with the drive, Dad and I left out a week ago, and had a great drive into Cookeville to our dear friends Eddie and Frieda's, Lazy G Ranch for the Southern Bison Conference.
The conference itself was fantastic... so many old friends, made some new ones, and got to catch up with the people making the greatest comeback story in history happen. Lot's of fantastic speakers, tons of good ideas being shared, and extremely optomistic about the future of bison in the U.S.A.
The venue was perfect, the food fantastic, and the company even better. Did get to hang out with Charlie and Shauna of YanasaTV who made the film Native, and really excited about the next installments... Will keep you posted. Got to spend some time with the new executive director of the National Bison Foundation, Chad Bloom, excited about the new directions there too. Also spent some time with Chad Kramer, the manager of Custer SP, and got something really exciting working there for the benefit of bison ranchers. Lot of work to be done, but it's all for the good.
There was a lot of great stuff that came from this conference, and will do a real write up this weekend, but trying to keep it short today, because there is work to be done... and to be completely honest, I just wanted to hit y'all up with stuff for Father's Day.
Get Dad something great this year, he deserves it.
So, after the conference, Dad and I loaded up and headed to Mt. Airy, NC. to go meet up with our new sock knitters at Nester Hosiery....
and for those of you who don't know... Mt. Airy is "Mayberry", but more on that later too, and yes, Dad has been calling me "Opie" the last few days.
For us it's important to spend time with our partners, get to know a bit about them as people, see how things are going and we usually learn something new that makes things better.
This trip was just flipping awesome, their plant in Mt. Airy is amazing, we had a wonderful visit. We were meeting with some of the team in their production facility, and within 5 minutes we had a fire drill... so we all evacuated and met outside, got to spend some time talking with the people actually making the socks... everyone was happy, excited and fun, and it really seems like a great community they have built there, truly glad to be a small part of it.
Met up with the heads of each dept, and ran into an old friend from Fox River who has made the move to North Carolina... that was great.
We did pick up the long awaited Trekker socks and some medium Kenai's, as well as a few other things, and they have yarn and will be getting more Kenai, B.o.s.s and our new Lounge Socks out fairly quickly...
They have done a new finishing process on the Trekkers, Steam Tumbling, and these things are just wonderful, so much softer than ever before, and we have finally gotten the sizing correct... they don't run overly large anymore. The fit and feel is the best we have ever had. This is the sock that we built the BWC on, and we have been OOS since November.
So, here is the deal. With everything from shearing, processing and production and including shipping going up, we are going to have to do a price increase shortly on all new production (it's been 5 years since we did) , but it's Father's Day here very soon and instead of marking them up and then doing a "Sale" I am just gonna hold of on the increase until this coming Sunday.. and give everyone who has been waiting so patiently a chance to snag stuff quickly.
So, grab Dad some socks.. or for yourself and the family, maybe pick up the nicest thing a person could own... a garment tanned bison robe.
Thank you, and will have more to the story Saturday, including the funniest thing we have done in a while... picking up a Tipi for a friend. It's a hysterical tale.
